The Basic Skills program provides supplemental general education support to students in grades kindergarten through five. Instruction is provided in small group settings to students who have been identified as needing English Language Arts and/or Math support.
Students are recommended for Basic Skills based on a variety of measures. These include, but are not limited to class performance, assessment results, and report card criteria.
Kindergartners are supported through our Response to Intervention (RTI) model. They are seen in small groups or individually and work with RTI staff to develop phonemic awareness, phonological skills, concepts of print, sight words, and other early reading and writing skills. Frequent assessment occurs to track student progress.
Students in grades one through five meet two to three times per week with the instructor. Student progress is monitored throughout the school year in conjunction with the classroom teacher.
Communication with the classroom teachers is ongoing and individual needs are addressed.
Students receive schedules and come to Basic Skills during times that do not conflict with classroom instruction in English Language Arts and/or Math.
I look forward to meeting with parents at parent / teacher conferences and I am always willing to chat, when needed. Please feel free to contact me via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
